We Engineer Solutions for Mission Critical Industries.

Tolerance Tool is an independent machining and engineering firm focused on solving critical manufacturing challenges in support of human-safety grade missions of national interest.

Who we are

An independent precision engineering firm — Detroit, since 1980.

Quality is built in, not inspected in: verified at every stage, from material intake to final inspection. The parts are high-consequence — single points of failure in the programs they serve — and a program never changes hands as it grows. One team, one standard, prototype to production.

What we do

Machining

  • CNC Machining — multi-axis machining centers running one-off prototypes through full-rate production, bar stock to finished part under one roof.
  • CNC Turning & Turn-Mill — live-tool and twin-spindle turning centers finish complex parts complete in a single setup, up to 15-inch chucks.
  • Precision Grinding — surface and OD/cylindrical grinding for the finishes and tolerances a milled or turned feature alone can't hold.

Tool, Die & Engineering

  • Tool & Die — dies, fixtures, jigs, and gauging built and maintained in-house.
  • Reverse Engineering & Solid Modeling — from an existing part to a machinable CAD model using CMM digitizing.
  • Welding & Fabrication — TIG, MIG, gas, and arc in steel, stainless, aluminum, tool steel, copper, and titanium.

Inspection & Metrology

  • Mitutoyo CMM, optical comparator, and a full metrology lab — first-article and in-process verification at every stage.
  • Held to ±.0002″ when the print calls for it.

Prototype to Production & Rapid Response

  • Prototype to Production — first article to rate manufacturing, same routings, same inspection.
  • Rapid-Response Repair & Emergency Machining — mold and die repair and urgent machining when a line is down.
